Why'd Buick have to make this car look so good in silver?
No Photoshop was involved in the production of these pictures; all it is is some in-camera trickery and a wierd flourescent filter I picked up for a tenner.
This Buick LeSabre is one of my neighbor's cars. They're grandparents, now, retired from work. Rarely driven, it sits outside their house in immaculate condition.I have absolutely no idea why I like it so much. Perhaps the rear wheel arches remind me of an E-type, or the grille of a Ferrari. Somehow, it epitomizes classic muscle while invoking the smooth lines of a European tailor-made classic.
I've been told the most likely cause for this is a head injury, not finding a style gem in the beigemobile rough.

Although I don't share this particular affliction, I totally get it. Plus your enthusiasm comes through.
Head injury hypothesis is good too. :-)

Back when it was new I saw it as an awkward attempt to bridge the gap between late 20th and early 21st century styling.
Today I think the car's looks have aged reasonably well, and yes, it does look best in silver.
Pretty much anything with the 3800 SII in it is a worthy contender as a DD. This is one of the most luxurious and comfortable forms it comes in. On the used market its a bit of a steal. Its older clientele would tend to have it dealer serviced as per the schedule, and they also tend to keep them for a while. Easy to find a 1 owner car. The "Ew, Old Person Car!" factor drives the price down significantly.
Yes, yes, its a sofa. But its a nice, reliable sofa.

You're better at being a comedian the most comedians.

My dad bought one of these a couple of years ago. It was right after his 50th birthday. He said "I qualify for AARP now, so I can now buy myself an old-man car." Being a young ruffian myself, at first, I didn't really like his purchase, but after a few weeks, I was converted. Although it handles a bit like a boat, the ride quality in it is WAY comfier than my Camaro with its stiff suspension. And its passenger capacity is great, it can carry five (5!) passengers. The driving experience is a lot different with the front bench seat, it's especially fun when the person seated right next to you is an attractive lady! While the car may be pretty beige old people car, there's nothing like relaxing on the comfy leather after being on my feet all day at work.

For a while, I had an 98 Olds 88 LSS (same chassis), and it was the perfect match for my SRT-4 neon. The neon is loud, stiff (yet floaty/rolly) and the tach is at 3500 at highway speeds of 120km/hr (75ish). The olds was quite, had dual climate control (unfortunately the fan resistor had died, and the dealer wanted $150 for the computer controlled style that my $400 car needed) and sipped gas at 115km. I drove it until I moved up north. I still miss it whenever I am on the highway.
Your not injured, you just like to cruse in comfort for a reasonable price.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say I love the styling...but it has certainly aged well compared to many. I picked up an '03 from my grandparents (haha) last year for a cross-country move....and I've got to confess that I just can't let it go. It is stupidly comfortable on the highway, eats up the miles, has more than adequate power, solid fuel economy, and in 115k miles the amount of non-scheduled maintenance has consisted of exactly 1 turn-signal bulb.

Hey, there are SIX seatbelts in that car....

I drive one of these (admittedly, it's beige, not silver) and has some cosmetic damage on the fender (thanks, drunk driver!). It's boring, beige, and handles like a boat. On the plus side, I have a 1000 mile round-trip drive home from university for every break—and this baby will eat up highway miles like nobody's business.

Exactly. One for the driver, and five for the passengers.

Oh, right, hahaha. Derp. Hey, I actually used all 6 seatbelts in my LeSabre the other day... Just gotta put the right passenger in that middle front seat. :-P
